In a maglite there are about 17 or so connections and like the weakest link in a chain any one of them can cause resistance that causes dimming. The D-Cell’s switch can be completely disassembled which is a plus. Not so with the C-cell, unfortunately. So I added a thick coat of Penetrox (aluminum joint compound) to the following: tail spring to tail cap, set screw to sliding contact strip, set screw to flashlight body, and the threads for the tailcap and lens housing. A thin coat to tailcap bright to maglite bright base connection, the front and back of each battery, the top of the tail spring, the bulb base spring caps and spring and to the threads of the bulb retaining ring. An invisibly thin coat to the switch ring and ring-touching contacts, the cone-shaped spring cap to bulb base and the bulb-cylinder. while I had the switch disassembled i used silicone lubricant on the plastic parts.
